Cameron Young has been teaching just shy of ten years and has worked at Chaffey College, Fullerton College, Mt San Jacinto College, and Norco College (with Norco being the longest). Fortunately for him, teaching his first semester at Norco College was enough for him to realize he had found the home he wanted to belong to.
Cameron fell in love with writing when he discovered the beauty in being able to create unknown worlds people had not explored, battles testing the limits between the forces of good and evil, and sharing stories that had never been shared. He found writing cathartic and that it was as much an exploration of social ideas and concepts as it was for an exploration of himself.
Cameron earned his B.A. and M.A. in English from Cal State Fullerton where he split his coursework evenly to gain a breadth of experience in comparative literature, debate and rhetoric, and creative writing (which resulted in a creative writing certificate being conferred). An RCC alumnus, Cameron felt an affinity with the community college experience which was what prompted him to pursue becoming an English teacher.
At Norco (and the broader Riverside Community College District), Cameron has served as the part-time Faculty Association representative, part-time Academic Senator, the Faculty Association PAC chair, a co-advisor to PTK International Honor Society, co-advisor to PRISM (formerly GSA), and co-advisor to LGBTQ+ Advocates (currently serving as an assistant chair). He is a believer in social justice initiatives and the critical need to advocate for them.
Throughout his time teaching, Cameron has taught Eng 1A (with themes), Eng 1A (with themes), Eng 11, and various literature courses. When not teaching English courses, Cameron enjoys being a newfound father, playing chess and video games, being with friends and enjoying his family.
