Experience

Tyee Griffith was the Founding Manager for the Justice Education Initiative at the Claremont Colleges. Under her leadership, an accelerated bachelor’s degree pathway program—built on an integrated learning model—was created at the California Rehabilitation Center (CRC), Norco. Tyee also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Pitzer College, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and Norco College. She is a first-generation college graduate that started her education journey at the community college. Tyee is currently a doctoral student in the Political Science and Government department at Claremont Graduate University. She earned a master's degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Social Policy from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Law and Society from California State University, Los Angeles.

Tyee has worked with people who are system impacted for nearly 20 years, and she has over 15 years of higher education experience in high school outreach and student success programs and services. Tyee’s research focuses on solutions for increasing access to higher education for low-income and historically disadvantaged communities, increasing dual enrollment opportunities for youth who are system impacted, best practices for implementing higher education pathways in carceral settings, the use of education as a tool for rehabilitation and community empowerment, public policy, and urban governance. Tyee’s goal is to develop programs and legislation that dismantle the prison industrial complex while expanding educational opportunities to underserved and underrepresented communities. In her spare time, Tyee enjoys spending time with family, Sunday brunches, traveling, hiking, training for half marathons and playing tackle football. She has played semi-professional tackle football since 2012 and will be completing her final season 2023. Tyee is extremely excited to join the Norco College community and looks forward to meeting all of you.
