James McMahon
Grounds Supervisor, Assistant Men's & Women's Cross Country Coach
(Retired in April 2021)
A Big Farewell to Jim McMahon
It is with great appreciation and mixed emotions that I announce the retirement of
our own Jim McMahon, manager of facilities, grounds and utilization. After twenty
two years with the RCCD, Jim has decided to take off his work boots for the last time
as April comes to a close. Of course, Jim is a proud Marine through and through. His
eight years of service to our great country are a testament to the type of loyalty
and dedication he has exhibited throughout his life, and especially here at the RCCD.
Jim spent ten years as a seasonal part time team member in the Grounds department
at Moreno Valley College. It was in 2009 that Jim was hired full time as the athletic
field caretaker at Norco College, where we worked until he stepped up to manage facilities,
grounds and facility utilization in 2017. Jim has also served as the Norco College
Cross Country coach, where he truly dedicated himself to the success of his student-athletes,
always encouraging his student-athletes to push beyond their perceived boundaries
to achieve personal bests. Jim really understands his role in coaching student success.
Jim is also a friend to us all, the type of guy that will work hard to take care of
everyone, at the same time. If a member of our college community needed something
related to facilities use, he would ensure they had what was needed for a successful
event. His subject matter expertise in the area of grounds and athletic field maintenance
was second to none, and his institutional knowledge will be sorely missed.
As Jim rides off this week, I want to let him know that his impact on our college
will not fade. I know he is very proud of the new VRC under construction and the activities
and services that will aid our service men and women as they work to achieve their
educational goals. Our grounds team will always have that attention to detail that
Jim expects, and our maintenance team will always carry that “can do” approach that
Jim exemplifies.
Thank you Jim McMahon, for your service and for the care and concern you have shown
to our college. Enjoy the next chapter in your life with your family, and know that
you will be missed by many as we stroll together down the beautifully maintained Palm
Pathway. We know you will continue to serve and help others every day, and we are
happy for you. We all wish you great happiness, health, and a little magic.
