October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)—a time to celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities to the workforce and to promote inclusive employment practices.
Established in 1945 as National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week and expanded to a month in 1988, NDEAM raises awareness about disability employment issues and highlights the talent, skill, and value that individuals with disabilities bring to every workplace.
At Norco College, the Disability Resource Center (DRC) is dedicated to providing equitable access and support to students with disabilities. Through services such as academic accommodations, assistive technology, and counseling, the DRC empowers students to achieve their educational and professional goals.
In recognition of NDEAM, the DRC, in collaboration with the DEIA Committee, will host Deaf Awareness Day on Wednesday, November 5. The day will feature a Faculty Lecture: “Understanding Deaf Culture” by Professor Dyan Sue Kovacs from 12:50–1:50 pm in CSS 217, followed by a movie screening of CODA from 5–7 pm in CSS 217. Light refreshments will be provided, and Faculty Equity Flex credit will be available for the lecture. MORE INFO
