For Norco College student Kambrey Friers, environmental stewardship is more than an academic interest. It is a passion that she brings to her education, her campus community, and her service through College Corps.
As a College Corps fellow, Friers has gained opportunities to connect her passion for the environment with meaningful community service through partnerships with organizations such as the Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District (RCRCD).
In June, Friers led a tour of RCRCD’s LandUse Learning Center, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for environmental conservation while gaining hands-on experience in community education and engagement.
Her commitment to environmental stewardship also extends to Norco College. On Earth Day, Friers led a native plant workshop for fellow students, sharing her knowledge of California’s native plants and encouraging others to learn more about their role in supporting healthy ecosystems.
For Friers, these experiences provide an opportunity to explore her interests while developing skills that align with her academic and career goals. She will return to Norco College as part of College Corps Cohort 5 during the upcoming academic year before transferring to the University of California, Davis, in fall 2027 to pursue studies in botany and plant biology.
Through College Corps and its community partnerships, students like Friers can turn their interests into action, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the communities they serve.
For Friers, each opportunity is another step toward a future dedicated to understanding, protecting, and advocating for the natural world.
