Throughout the semester, Norco College’s Promoting Achievable College Transitions (PACT) program has created intentional spaces for neurodiverse students to connect, build skills, and gain confidence as they navigate college life. The PACT Program is made possible through an award through the Inland Empire Regional K-16 Collaborative, streamlining equitable pathways for students pursuing Business, Education, Engineering, and Healthcare from high school to postsecondary education and into the workforce in the Inland Empire.
PACT hosted a variety of student-centered activities designed to support academic adjustment and social connection. One of the semester’s highlights was a Paint and Hot Cocoa social, which provided a relaxed, sensory-friendly environment where students could engage at their own pace. Events like these allow students to practice social interaction in low-pressure settings while building familiarity with campus life.
In addition to social events, PACT facilitated workshops focused on self-advocacy and transition skills, helping students better understand college expectations and how to seek support when needed. These sessions reinforced independence while offering consistent guidance during a critical adjustment period.
Norco College also participated in a pilot workforce preparation program through PACT, offered in partnership with Phenix Gateway. The course introduced students to essential employment skills, including résumé development, job applications, and interview readiness. Students also explored workplace environments and discussed career interests, helping them envision pathways beyond the classroom.
PACT’s support at Norco College extends beyond group activities. Students received ongoing one-on-one check-ins throughout the semester, providing opportunities to review coursework, discuss challenges, and develop strategies for academic success. These regular touchpoints helped students stay engaged and reduced barriers that can lead to disengagement during the first semester.
The program also supported student engagement through on-campus orientations and outreach efforts, connecting new students to services and helping them understand the steps required to successfully enroll and remain on track. For many students, these touchpoints clarified expectations that can otherwise feel overwhelming during the transition from high school to college.
Looking ahead, Norco College’s PACT program is expanding its offerings. Planned initiatives include a 16-week social skills program launching in the spring, as well as additional workshops and activities aimed at strengthening community, independence, and career readiness. The team is also exploring transportation-focused support to help students feel more confident navigating public transit.
PACT events and services at Norco College are open to students who identify as neurodivergent, and participation does not require disability documentation. Students interested in upcoming events or support opportunities are encouraged to visit rccd.edu/pact.
