Ethnic Studies

Ethnic studies, in the United States, is the interdisciplinary study of difference—chiefly race, ethnicity, and nation, but also sexuality, gender, and other such markings—and power, as expressed by the state, by civil society, and by individuals. Its origin comes before the civil rights era, as early as the 1900s. During this time, educator and historian W. E. B. Du Bois expressed the need for teaching black history.

Our ethnic studies program offers political science for transfer (AA-T) degrees, and social and behavioral sciences associate's degrees and certificates.

Norco College student Christian Reyes was selected as the 2024 Student of Distinction in the discipline of Men of Color Scholars program. He was nominated by Professor Daniel Grejeda. Hear from Christian on why he chose Gender, Ethnicity, and Multicultural Studies as his major and his experience at Norco College.
