How Do I Become a Tutor?
Tutoring sessions are led by qualified, trained tutors who received an “A” or “B” in the respective courses for which they choose to tutor. They reinforce specific course material emphasized by the instructors and use their own successful student experiences to integrate what-to-learn with how-to-learn.
Qualifications:
For applicants to be considered for an interview, they must:
- Passed the class(es) they want to tutor with at least an "A" or "B" letter grade
- Currently have and maintain a 3.0 Cumulative GPA or higher each semester
- Secure a Faculty Recommendation specific to the class they want to tutor (Tutors cannot provide tutoring support for
courses that they are not recommended to tutor)
- Note: English and Writing Tutors must complete ENG-4 and be recommended by the instructor of record.
- Submit a Tutor Application
- Have excellent interpersonal skills
- Minimum of 1 semester of coursework at any college or university
- Submit an unofficial copy of your transcript(s)
- Proof of part-time enrollment (6-units for Fall/Spring, 3-units for Summer/Winter)
- Must have high school diploma, GED, or be 18 and older
Required Documents:
- A completed Tutor Application.
- An RCCD unofficial transcript (Uploaded at question 21 of the application).
- A Tutor Recommendation form that is filled out by the instructor who thought the class you want to tutor (Copy/Paste the link below when requesting an instructor's recommendation).
Note: Completing training course(s) and documents does not guarantee an invitation to an interview or a tutoring position. Tutoring positions are offered based on the interview process, faculty recommendation, departmental need, and availability of funds.
