Association of Latin@ Advocates for Student Success (ALASS)

Mission Statement

The mission of ALASS is to advocate on behalf of the Latinx students and the community we serve. This includes but is not limited to creating opportunities for higher educational and professional advancement, promoting cultural awareness, inclusion, and fostering leadership within and outside the institution.

Why Join ALASS?

By becoming part of ALASS, you'll have opportunities for:

Academic & Educational Support

  • Creating opportunities for higher education advancement
  • Assisting the college in addressing the unique needs of Latin@ students
  • Increasing Latin@ student attainment, retention, and persistence
  • Coordinating college-wide equity-focused activities*
    • These include workshops, seminars, and cultural events that support
      academic success.

Mentoring & Networking

  • Developing a support network for Latin@ students and employees
  • Assisting in the retention of Latin@ students through mentoring and related activities
  • Increasing communication between students, equity programs, and services
  • Helps students navigate and access campus resources effectively.

Cultural Awareness & Advocacy

  • Promoting cultural awareness and inclusion
  • Increasing awareness about the Latin@ community on and off campus
  • Supporting Latin@ leadership development both within and beyond Norco College
  • Supporting attendance at conferences such as HACU and COLEGAS
  • These conferences offer professional and educational development, networking, and identity-affirming opportunities.

Professional Development & Leadership

  • Fostering leadership among Latin@ students
  • Including student leadership positions on the Steering Committee
  • Offering access to professional development resources and conferences
  • Supports students' career readiness and personal growth.
