Through the Inland Engineering Pathways Partnership (IEPP), funded by the Inland Empire Regional K–16 Education Collaborative, Norco College and the UC Riverside Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE) are working together to strengthen the local engineering transfer pipeline by providing students with meaningful exposure to four-year university opportunities.
As part of the partnership, 21 Norco College engineering students visited UC Riverside for an immersive experience hosted by Gretchen Harris, admissions and articulation specialist at BCOE. Students learned about engineering programs, transfer pathways, graduate education opportunities, student organizations, career outcomes, and resources such as Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG), and Transfer Admission Planner (TAP). The experience helped students better understand the steps needed to successfully transfer and complete a bachelor's degree in engineering.
The visit also provided students with direct engagement with engineering faculty and current research. Professors Amanda Rupiper and Ahmad Mohammadpanah showcased real-world applications of environmental, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering through laboratory tours, research demonstrations, and discussions about industry careers.
Students also toured UCR's innovative Hex House Project, a student-led initiative that demonstrates how engineering can address real-world challenges through sustainable, affordable housing design. The project highlighted how interdisciplinary teams can transform ideas into tangible solutions through engineering design, renewable energy technologies, and hands-on problem-solving.
With support from the Inland Empire Regional K–16 Education Collaborative, Norco College and UC Riverside BCOE look forward to continuing the partnership to expand transfer opportunities and support local students as they pursue engineering degrees and careers.
