For Adan Zamora, Norco College was more than the place where he launched his collegiate soccer career. It was a familiar place that had felt like home long before he became a Mustang.
"Choosing Norco College felt natural because it's always been a familiar place for me, right from my youth sports days with practices and games there," Zamora said. "What truly made my experience unique was the immediate welcome I received from the staff. They made me feel comfortable and part of the team right away, which really helped me settle in."
That sense of belonging helped lay the foundation for an exceptional collegiate experience. Zamora will continue both his academic and athletic journey at Chicago State University, where he has committed to play NCAA Division I men's soccer.
As the Mustangs' goalkeeper, Zamora helped lead the team to three consecutive conference championships while earning All-State, All-Region, and First Team All-Conference honors. He credits those accomplishments to the unwavering support of his teammates and coaches, whose guidance helped him develop both on and off the field.
Beyond the success on the field, Zamora said Norco College challenged him to grow every day as both a student and an athlete.
"My experience as a student-athlete at Norco College was all about continuous growth," he said. "Every day, I was challenged to be better than the day before."
That growth extended beyond the soccer field. Zamora said the coaching staff consistently emphasized academic success by connecting student-athletes with study hall, tutoring, and other campus resources. Learning to balance coursework with practices, games, and travel taught him valuable lessons in time management, discipline, and communication.
"One of the biggest challenges I faced at Norco College was balancing a demanding academic schedule with the rigorous demands of being a student-athlete," Zamora said. "Ultimately, overcoming these challenges strengthened my resilience and showed me that with dedication and strategic planning, I could succeed even under pressure."
Now, Zamora is preparing for the next chapter of his academic and athletic journey at Chicago State University, a milestone he once only dreamed of achieving.
"Transferring to a four-year university, especially with the opportunity to play Division I soccer, means everything to me," he said. "While I always aspired to play college soccer, I never imagined reaching the Division I level. This goal extends beyond personal ambition; it's a dedication to my family, who deserve the world and more. Every effort I make is ultimately for them."
Looking ahead, Zamora hopes to continue competing at the highest level by pursuing a professional soccer career before eventually becoming a coach.
"My long-term career aspirations involve reaching the professional level in my sport and then transitioning into coaching to give back to the youth and help develop the next generation of athletes," he said.
As he reflects on his time at Norco College, Zamora encourages future student-athletes to remain grounded, work hard, and appreciate every opportunity.
"My advice is to always put God first, above all else," he said. "Show up every day, be thankful for the opportunity to play your sport, and appreciate the privilege of stepping onto the Norco turf. Always respect your coaches; they are there to help you reach the next level and prepare you for whatever comes next.
For Zamora, that mindset of gratitude, discipline, and perseverance has carried him from a familiar hometown campus to the Division I stage, where he is ready to begin an exciting new chapter both on the field and in the classroom.
