STEM Networking

American Medical Student Association (AMSA)

Are you interested in becoming a medical doctor or work in healthcare? Consider joining the Norco College chapter of the American Medical Student Association. AMSA is the largest pre-medical organization in the nation. If you believe in health equity and patient advocacy, network with like-minded peers, gain leadership skills, and get recognized by medical schools. AMSA offers suture clinics, MCAT workshops, research projects, and much more!

Esports Association

Norco Esports Association is dedicated to the promotion and development of Esports. Attend a meeting, join the Esports Discord, or contact Nick Galvan.

  • Participate in student-led projects
  • Learn about internships and scholarships
  • Meet like-minded individuals
  • Get tutoring and homework help

Consider joining one of the most active clubs on-campus! Check out the STEM Club website for more details on how you can get involved in any of their engaging, hands-on projects. Or better yet, attend their next meeting to learn more. All students are welcome to attend, every Thursday in the Library Classroom 108 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM.

The Thursday meeting time is used for announcing important announcements from the public, brainstorming ideas, creating a final concept, and scheduling the timeline for projects and activities. When time is needed to work on a project or an activity, we will meet Fridays in the STEM Center (usually 5:30 - 7:00 pm) to bring our ideas to reality. There will not be a Friday meeting unless announced prior to the meeting.

Rocetry Team FAR 51025.PNG
In 2019, a group of Engineering Pathways students advocated to form a rocketry team and compete in the Spaceport America Cup Amateur Rocketry Competition in Las Cruces, New Mexico. That first Norco College Rocketry (NCR) team began with over 20 participants learning about amateur rocketry and building a 14 foot competition rocket.  Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic put an abrupt halt to the competition. In 2021 the rocketry team was revived with 10 STEM students, with the support and mentorship from 5 alumni, 1 faculty advisor and 2 staff advisors. NCR took initiative to learn from their mentors, built their own certification rockets and earned their certifications 1 and 2 in amateur rocketry all the while building a new competition rocket, "Calisto" for the 2021 Friends of Amateur Rocketry (FAR 51025) Competition in the Mohave Desert.  NCR collaborated with the Flabob Airport Rocketry Program by taking weekly classes and worked diligently to educate themselves on rocketry fundamentals and techniques in fall 2022. They learned how to make their own experimental motors and machine their motor rings and nozzles.

NCR's efforts and tenacity resulted in many “firsts”—first experimental launch, first flight with custom 3D printed parts, and first self-developed GPS systems. Moving forward with designing and building their competition rocket “Peaches” for the 2023 FAR 51025 Competition.  “Peaches” reached an apogee of 6,111 feet and was awarded bonus points for creative and ingenious engineering, such as the nosecone doors for the water ballast, 3D printed brackets for the fiberglass fins, and custom avionics bay design. The team finished 7th overall out of 15 teams and 6th in the 10,000-foot category.

The 2023-24 NCR team moves forward with over 30 members, support from five faculty advisors, a faculty emeritus, an alumni mentor, and a staff advisor. They will be competing at the FAR-Out Competition in the Mohave Desert designing a new and improved rocket and preparing a liquid motor for launch. These types of hands-on, complex projects give students the knowledge to apply and successfully earn advanced opportunities towards future projects, internships, and research opportunities.

Connect with a Norco College STEM Alumni Mentors

It's imperative and valuable for students to build their network and community now, and we applaud our alumni for their willingness to mentor our current students.  Each of our alumni have a special bond to Norco College and attribute their success to mentors, opportunities and resources they received here. Don't be shy, connect with a STEM Alumni mentor to learn valuable knowledge about the transfer experience, what to expect at thee four-year university, as well as internship, research and career experiences. STEM Alumni Mentors represent a variety of STEM majors including:  computer science, chemistry, biology, engineering, and statistics. Our STEM alumni mentors have gone on to work for a variety of employers, including:  NASA JPA, Raytheon Intelligence & Space, Amazon, Apeel Sciences, Broken Circle Studios, Costco, Eichleay, Medtronic, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Southern California Edison, Google, Keep Truckin, Square, San Gabriel Valley Water Company,  and Walt Disney.

Please reach out to Patricia Gill to get the contact information for a STEM Alumni Mentors that transferred to your university/major of interest or is working for your dream employer.
