NORCO COLLEGE INVITES COMMUNITY TO OPEN HOUSE FOR NEW OPERATIONS CENTER

Norco College Operations Center

Norco College is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, to celebrate the opening of the Norco Operations Center. Tilden Coil, Pac West, Spinitar and Advanced Electrical Contractors will provide a barbecue lunch.

The 22,200-square-foot building includes a warehouse, offices for the director of facilities and supervisors, repair shops, storage and meeting space for maintenance and operations, a dedicated room to store building plans with easy access in case of a water leak or other problem, a Network Operations Center providing support for campus computer and phone systems and an Emergency Command Center.

"For the first time, the college will have a back-up generator that can keep the communications systems up and running for days in the event of a power outage,” said Laurens Thurman, project director.

The building also will house Instructional Media Support and Information Technology, which had been located on the second floor of the Norco College library. That space will revert back to the library.

The $9 million project was fully funded by Measure C, a voter-approved local bond measure passed in 2004 for new construction and renovation at RCCD’s three colleges.
