Nikki Capps

Associate Professor, English

Norco College School of Communication,
Humanities & Languages

Lead Instructor, Writing and Reading Center

Nikki Capps has been teaching English Composition and Literature for over 20 years and has been a proud Norco Mustang for the past 13 years. She is the current Lead Instructor of the Writing and Reading Center.

Written words were always of great interest to Nikki. Her mother was a poet who influenced Nikki's love of reading and writing, which inspired Nikki to find great pleasure in English classes throughout school. Becoming an English teacher was the only choice in her mind growing up, and for the past 23 years, it has been one of the greatest joys of her life.

Nikki attended Citrus Community College and then obtained her BA and MA at Cal Poly Pomona, where she taught for 11 years, as well as at various CCs like Citrus and Mt. Sac. She never felt at home at any of these places. One day, a friend told her there was an opening at Norco College, and after teaching here for two semesters, she knew she'd found her home college. She has been full-time at Norco since 2009, and she still feels like it is the best decision she ever made.

Nikki, along with two other colleagues, created the Norco College Writing and Reading Center in 2019, which has since become a busy, welcoming space for writers and readers across the curriculum. She teaches Writing Tutor Training, Writing Clinic, English 1A and 1B, and some Literature courses. She is also Lead Instructor of the WRC.

Nikki lives in the Inland Empire with her husband and daughter and also has a son who teaches Game Development courses at Norco College. She loves reading and audio books, writing poetry, making jewelry, collecting oddities and macabre art, metal shows, camping, and taking care of her bulldogs and python.

She hopes to see you in the WRC this semester!
