NC Art Gallery Exhibit - Honoring Expression

Honoring Expression: Work by United States Artist-Veterans is an exhibition that features eight artist-veterans from World War II, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. Spanning 50 years from the youngest to the oldest, these artists represent the Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force. Sculptures, paintings, drawings, ceramics and digital art are part of the exhibit, ranging from representational images to abstract compositions.

The exhibition is free and open to the community from November 11 through December 9. The opening reception is scheduled for Veterans Day, November 11, from 2 – 4 pm.  A conversation with the artists will take place on Tuesday, November 28, from 12:50 - 1:50 pm.
“Given the pro-veteran culture of our college, and knowing the long history of veteran-artists in this country, it seems natural to organize an exhibition along these lines,” said Art Gallery Director Quinton Bemiller. “It is my hope that Norco College students, staff and the community will engage with this exhibition and be moved to appreciate the importance of art in our lives, just as we recognize the importance of our veterans’ service.”

The exhibit includes the following artists:

Michael Aschenbrenner (b.1949), United States Army, 1967-1970
Francisco Alvarado (b.1952), United States Marine Corps, 1969-1978
Chet Glaze (b.1976), United States Army, 1994-1999
Timothy Haerens (b.1947), United States Air Force, 1968-1972
Myron Kaufman (b. 1927), United States Navy, 1943-1945
Patrick Merrill, posthumously, (1948-2010), United States Air Force, 1967-1971
John Morgan (b.1947), United States Army, 1966-1969
Ehren Tool (b.1970), United States Marine Corps, 1989-1994

“I encourage our community to attend. It is a perfect way to support our artists and celebrate the exciting veterans initiatives that are taking place at our college,” said President Bryan Reece, Ph.D.
