Counselor, Umoja

Hello Fellow Mustangs! My name is Sean Davis, and I am thrilled you are joining the Norco College family. Sawubona!

Growing up in the local community, I have fond memories of using the Corona library throughout the hot summers to beat the heat and playing Pop Warner football for the Corona Rams, even though I belong to “Raider Nation.” Go Dodgers! My first job was opening up the TJ Maxx in Corona when I turned fifteen years old. Wow! That was a long time ago.

As a student at La Sierra High School, I worked hard to overcome some learning disabilities and simultaneously take college prep courses with my father's encouragement. I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life after high school, but I knew education was my ticket. Luckily for me, I was blessed to get a new counselor (Dr. Susan Boyd) in my senior year that took a vested interest in me and my potential. With her guidance and my parents’ support, I began my academic journey after La Sierra as a first generation American Citizen and college bound student at California State University of San Bernardino. To this day, I credit Dr. Boyd with my career vocation.

I have worked in K-12 and higher education in various roles as a teacher and counselor in Colton Joint School District, San Bernardino City Unified School District, Crafton Hills Community College, California State University of San Bernardino, and as an adjunct at Norco College. Throughout my academic and career journey, I never thought I would have an opportunity to give back to my local community here at Norco College. It is extremely humbling and exciting to return back as an educator.

As a member of the Norco College family, I plan to work diligently to help you reach your full potential academically, personally, socially, and professionally while providing accurate guidance, support, encouragement, and direction.

As the Umoja Coordinator, I plan to actively serve and promote student success through a curriculum and pedagogy responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas while maintaining the vision statement to transform, enrich, and advance student lives.

There is an old African proverb that says: “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” I look forward to joining you in support towards your pathway as one of the members of this amazing campus community.
