NORCO COLLEGE RECEIVES $4.3 MILLION FOR FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE PROGRAMS

Norco College has been awarded $4.3 million in federal grants to continue the Upward Bound Programs that help first-generation, low-income high school students prepare for college. The awards were given by the Department of Education and are good for five years.

Norco College has three Upward Bound Programs that serve students attending Centennial High School, Corona High School, and Norte Vista High School. There are currently 204 high school students participating in the programs.

"We are pleased that all three of our Upward Bound Programs were renewed,” said Eva Amezola, director of Upward Bound. “This translates to more college graduates in the Inland Empire. We are proud of the work we are doing in changing the lives of students and am excited to continue the partnership with CNUSD and AUSD.”

Upward Bound prepares students for college entrance and provides academic guidance, personal development and fundamental support. The goal is to increase the rate at which students complete secondary education and graduate from college.

Since 2003, the programs have served over 2,000 high school students from CNUSD and AUSD. More than 90% percent of students who have completed the program have enrolled in college.

The Upward Bound Program is 100% federally funded through the United States Department of Education, TRIO program. To learn about eligibility, or to apply, visit: http://www.norcocollege.edu/services/trio/upwardbound/Pages/index.aspx
