Norco College and the Corona Norco Unified School District (CNUSD) will host a College Bound Day for foster youth on Friday, April 27.
The theme of the College Bound Day is “Resiliency and Excellence” and will feature a motivational speech by Pastor Charles Lee Johnson of the Corona Community AME Church, followed by a discussion panel of Cal Poly Pomona's Renaissance Scholars and Norco College's EOPS students who emancipated from foster care. Ninety students have signed up to attend the program to learn more about college and the opportunities that await them once they earn degrees.
Breakout sessions will offer the participants hands-on assistance navigating college admissions procedures and college life, understanding the financial aid application process known as FAFSA, and learning about two- and four-year college pathways. The event will also include a campus tour to introduce students to innovative academic and support programs at Norco College. The program will culminate with a “Mustang BBQ” complete with music and a resource fair where information about on- and off-campus foster care services are available.
