During the week of July 14-17, 2014, Norco College welcomes approximately 600 Summer Advantage students to a full day of activities at Norco Orientation Week (NOW). Summer Advantage students receive an overview of the College’s degrees and certificates, meet with counselors to develop an educational plan, gain exposure to special programs available to them, and tour the campus. Parents and/or guardians may attend a special information session from 9-11 am the same date their student attends the full day session.
NOW attendees are students who’ve completed the 2014 Summer Advantage Program. This program is an opportunity for recent graduates from the surrounding area high schools to gain an advantage in college by improving English or math placement, potentially saving them from one to three semesters of coursework. The program can therefore save time and money to the participants and is provided at no-cost to the student. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to receive early registration and guaranteed an opportunity to enroll in English and math courses at Norco College for the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 academic terms.
Last year, during the 2013 Summer Advantage program, 280 students completed the program. Over 90% advanced one to three levels over their original placement in English. In math, over 75% advanced one to three levels over their original placement.
