LA ARTIST EXHIBITING WORK IN THE IE FOR THE FIRST TIME

The Norco College Art Gallery is hosting the works of Michael Lewis Miller: 1989 to Present, Survey Exhibition. The opening reception will take place on September 9 from 2-4 pm, and will run through October 21. Artist conversation is taking place on October 2 from 5-7 pm.

Miller’s work, both in sculpture and performance, demonstrate the power of art to find meaning in life. Various themes – childhood, personal memory, gender, sexuality, history, pain, and joy – comingle in his whimsical, witty, and profound creations. Through his art, he hopes that students, as well as the larger community, will take time to see the world a bit differently, to pause and reflect on their own lives, and find beauty in surprising places. He is a beloved artist, curator and instructor who is bringing his work for the first time to the Inland Empire.

“Norco College is honored to host Michael Lewis Miller,” said Art Gallery Director Quinton Bemiller. “Miller’s art is welcomed at Norco College, where we celebrate diverse perspectives and honor the dignity of every individual.”

Miller earned a master’s in Fine Art from the University of Southern California. He holds a master’s degree in Geology from the University of Kentucky, Lexington and a bachelor’s in Geology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg. In addition to making, exhibiting and performing his art works, Miller is a curator, organizing contemporary exhibition focused on social practice. He worked with the Department of Cultural Affairs in the city of Los Angeles for over 25 years, and teaches courses in Curatorial Practices, Gallery/Museum and Artist Career issues, and three-dimensional intermedia art at several colleges. He is currently the gallery director at El Camino College.
